Men Hands High FiveOutpatient rehabilitation does not require a person to live at the treatment facility. It’s a therapy-based program that guides clients through recovery in individual and group sessions. Typically, behavioral treatments are also provided.

Outpatient rehabilitation does not provide on-site housing or living arrangements. That means the individuals who do best in this kind of program have safe housing of their own and reliable transport to treatment. In most cases, sessions last between six to nine hours every week. Intensive programs may require more time.

How Does Outpatient Drug Rehab Work?

The outpatient rehabilitation process includes:

  • Screening and intake
  • Orientation
  • Assessment
  • Drug testing
  • Treatment
  • Support and aftercare

Screening Evaluation

An evaluation to ensure the right fit comes first and includes questions about:

  • Your current physical health
  • Your current mental health
  • Your motivation for seeking drug abuse treatment
  • Information on previous treatment efforts
  • The kind of substance or substances being abused
  • Your support system outside the facility

Orientation

At orientation, the staff talks to you about the goals of our program and how it works. We’ll discuss with you the way the rules work in our Florida rehab facility and how we deal with violations or situations that could result in discharge from our program. We also discuss the available services as well as your rights and the cost of treatment.

Assessment

Assessment occurs next. We will discuss strengths, weaknesses and problems you may be dealing with, in addition to the need for a drug addiction treatment plan. The staff works with you to create a specific plan to address your type of addiction and your individual needs.

Drug Testing

Of course, it is crucial to know if a patient has drugs in their system when they arrive. If so, it’s necessary to help with the symptoms of withdrawal and to advise them accordingly. Drug testing is a formality, but it helps us know if you might experience withdrawal symptoms that could affect you or others moving forward.

Treatment

The kinds of treatment offered vary based on your needs. However, some core services generally include:

  • 24-hour crisis support
  • Case management
  • Individual counseling
  • Vocational training
  • Employment services
  • Family counseling
  • Community support groups
  • Group counseling
  • Monitoring drug use

You may be wondering why group therapies are prevalent in outpatient treatment programs. The truth is that working in a group helps you form bonds with others, socialize and develop communication skills. This group environment establishes a reliable support system of people who can understand and empathize with what you’re going through.

Aftercare Support

After you finish the outpatient drug rehab program, it’s time to seek services beyond the rehab treatment center to maintain your sobriety. Outpatient staff members may be able to connect you with services such as:

  • Adjunct therapies
  • Childcare
  • Parent skills training
  • Housing and food assistance
  • Follow-up therapy
  • Support groups
