A brief summary of your experience: 
For fifteen years, I’ve held respectful space for countless people to explore their unique path to healing. It’s been an honor and a privilege to accompany each one on their journey. I’ve worked with ages 4 to 84 across a vast spectrum of diversity including at risk youth in the urban core of Kansas City, MO to indigenous people from the Pueblos of New Mexico. In all my work, I’ve found that hands-on, experiential learning and emotional connections with co-learners are the most effective ways for clients to make strides toward emotional and mental stability. I value group work and the necessity of community in healing. 
 
What made you get into this field? 
Working as a documentary filmmaker in Chicago during my twenties illuminated my aptitude for really hearing people’s heartfelt stories and empathizing with their truth. My films were each a compelling synthesis of personal themes and profound breakthroughs. As a returning college student in my thirties, ready to get letters after my name, I was guided by my mentors to deepen my natural aptitude for psychology. They advised me to obtain a master’s in social work from the highly regarded program at The University of Kansas where I thrived and found creative ways to integrate film and art into my therapeutic practice. 
 
What do you love most about your job? 
I cherish the feedback from my clients. For instance, a client once told me that they’d never felt truly deserving of care and wellbeing. They said my words hung in their head, “it’s your birthright.” The client shared with me that once they saw it–they couldn’t unsee it and true belief followed. I love the moments when I see the lightbulb go on for client’s and suddenly their perspective has increased forever. It’s expansive!
 
What do you like most about Calusa? 
Calusa has the heart of a small, family owned business with a personal mission and the infrastructure of a well honed, seasoned corporation. It’s the best of both worlds and a rare find in the mental health industry. 
 
What do you do for fun? 
Play is the prescription! I swim and relax on the beach, practice yoga, paint, listen to live music, produce portrait photography, dance and garden.
