Veterans Drug Rehab in South Florida

For many veterans, addiction is a part of daily life. And while addiction can impact anyone, veterans are particularly predisposed to its effects. A lack of resources and support for veterans can make substance use seem like the best way to cope with pain, trauma, and mental health needs.

But a treatment facility that understands veterans and their needs can make a profound difference. That’s why we at Calusa Recovery are committed to providing top veterans addiction treatment in South Florida, no matter your background or goals.

Why Our Veterans' Drug Rehab in South Florida Matters

Veterans are often underrepresented and overlooked despite their immense sacrifices. However, their needs may be misconstrued or misunderstood regarding addiction treatment. A facility that considers the unique realities veterans face can meet clients where they’re at, offering a more compassionate and practical approach to care.  At Calusa Recovery, we believe it’s crucial to offer high-quality South Florida veterans addiction treatment with this goal in mind. Substance use is an all-too-tempting way to cope with stress, trauma, and mental health needs.  Our goal is to provide our clients with healthier, more sustainable ways to face the underlying causes of addiction. We see each client as a whole person, which means we work to understand how factors like those below can impact their addiction.

Trauma and mental health challenges

Mental health conditions and the effects of unresolved trauma can trigger substance misuse for anyone. But veterans are generally more likely to face these challenges and thus are at an increased risk of addiction. Time spent in the military can increase a veteran’s risk of developing conditions like depression and anxiety. Likewise, recent estimates suggest that between 20-30% of veterans who served in post-Vietnam eras live with post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). Even those veterans who don’t meet the diagnostic criteria for PTSD may live with trauma that impacts them regularly.  When a person experiences mental health challenges, their chances of developing an addiction grow. Around 1 in 4 people with a serious mental health disorder also live with a substance use disorder (SUD), suggesting a link between the two.  Veterans are more likely than others to face mental health challenges, especially PTSD. This, coupled with other factors, makes them uniquely predisposed to addiction.

Financial, physical, and other limitations

Life after service in the military comes with a myriad of challenges for many veterans. Financial and job insecurity, physical injuries, and strain in relationships are just a few of the many obstacles that might present themselves. Navigating challenges like these can be highly stressful, making substance misuse an attractive escape method. This can be particularly true when a veteran has little to no support system in place to help them overcome these difficulties.

The Importance of Tailoring Treatment to Veterans

At our veterans’ drug rehab in South Florida, we take care to adapt care to fit each client. We do so because we know recovery is a journey, and no two people have the same roadmap to success. As a result, we are equipped to tailor our treatment to meet the needs of veterans and help clients take advantage of benefits like those below.

  • More Effective Treatment. Addiction treatment that’s customized to each person works better, plain and simple. The more control a client has over their treatment, the more likely they are to engage with it. More engagement leads to better progress and results.
  • Building a Community. Our programs allow clients to interact with others who share similar experiences in addition to providing individualized support. This offers a chance to form meaningful connections that make addiction recovery feel less daunting.
  • Impactful Long-Term Results. Having the full range of addiction’s underlying causes treated in one place at the same time translates to more success down the road. We strive to give clients the tools they need to get and stay sober for years to come.

Our Programs for South Florida Veterans Addiction Treatment

At Calusa Recovery, we offer a variety of outpatient and drug rehab programs to support veterans living with addiction. From the first day, a client walks through our doors to the final day of their treatment, our team works with them to establish a meaningful relationship and create a safe space for healing.  Below is a preview of some of the programs we have created to help our clients achieve a full physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual recovery.

Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP)

Our partial hospitalization program acts as a step between inpatient care (where a client stays at a facility full-time) and outpatient care. Clients may be asked to visit our facility for a set number of sessions and hours per week, depending on their treatment plan. They can then return home each night to stay connected with their daily lives.  While part of our PHP, clients engage in several evidence-based and holistic therapies to achieve their goals. This model offers a higher level of support than our outpatient programs and is ideal for those who need more supervision and guidance.

Intensive outpatient program (IOP)

The intensive outpatient program at our veterans’ drug rehab in South Florida is the next step down from a PHP or inpatient treatment program. It involves a more rigorous level of treatment than traditional outpatient care but still offers clients the flexibility to keep up with daily life. Our IOP is ideal for those who have completed a PHP or who could benefit from more consistent care than lower levels of treatment offer.

Traditional outpatient program

As one of the most commonly sought-out forms of veterans’ addiction treatment in South Florida, outpatient care gives clients a safe space to share, learn, and reflect as they navigate other responsibilities. This is often the final step of a comprehensive treatment plan or an ideal choice for those whose needs are fairly mild. Clients engage in the same activities found in our higher levels of care at less frequent intervals.

Sober living program

Our sober living program is designed to help clients stay on track with their goals even after their formal treatment has ended. Alumni can return to work through challenges, connect with others, and remind themselves of the importance of sobriety. Options like these help clients stay sober, confident, and happy in the long term.
